Trina grater, LCMHC, therapy for family trauma & stress

in-person in st. George & online across utah

Maybe you’ve had thoughts that are hard to admit:

i used to be so sure of who i was, but now i can’t even relate to that person.

I’m scared of childbirth.

Maybe having kids was a mistake.

Perhaps you’re a first-time parent riddled with fears, or maybe the babymoon phase is over and life now feels unpredictable and overwhelming.

Maybe you’re a seasoned parent that catches glimpses of yourself showing up way more like your own parents than you even intended. Or you and your partner keep running into the same patterns.

Maybe it’s been heart-breaking to watch your teen experience hardships as they grow older, and you’d do anything to find support that actually gets some traction with them.

Maybe you are that teen, and you just feel so much pressure to figure out who you are as you try to find your way through all the noise in the world today.

I see you.

Experienced therapist for family trauma who is confident she can help you.

How I work

together, we’ll follow the breadcrumb trail of your unique story and begin to understand how things shaped you and its effects on your life today.

I work with people who:

  • feel emotions deeply and don’t know where to start to express it all.

  • have their guard up for good reason.

  • feel like a sailboat drifting through life without a centerboard.

  • see themselves more as disasters than the miracles they are.

  • when asked where they feel something in their body, they often think “what body?”

I work with new & seasoned parents, and teens who need more self-love than self-discipline.

in therapy with me…

We’ll dig deep.

Beyond a Master’s degree in psychotherapy and nearly two decades of on-the-ground experience in the mental health field supporting young people and their unique family constellations, I am a parent…and a child…and I embrace the human-ness I bring to our sessions.

I’ll cheer you on.

Taking care of a family and home can be hard on your sanity. Being the breadwinner can be hard on your heart. Trying to work from home in 17-minute increments, or working multiple jobs to make ends meet can leave you feeling like you’re failing at everything. I know first-hand each scenario has its challenges.

growing a family is hard.

Being a kid is hard. Being a human in today’s world is HARD. Welcome to a breath of fresh air in regards to the heteronormative world we live in.

You dread starting with a new therapist and what it entails to catch them up to speed because your situation is complex. Let’s skip that. Feeling is more important than explaining here. I’m with you already.

Fog lifting from a forest of trees.

it’s time to get out of your head and heal in your heart.

What teens say about me:

  • I’m creative, and I bring a warmth that makes it all approachable.

  • I hear what’s not being said.

  • Therapy feels different when there is no need for justification or defenses.

  • They can easily connect; I’m “ageless.”

  • I see them for who they truly are.

what parents say about me:

  • It’s freeing not to need to “have it all together” and, rather, focus on being a “whole” self.

  • It is powerful to have an unbiased witness to their story, which creates context to process the past for themselves.

  • I’m intuitive, thoughtful, and carefully consider implications.

  • I know when to get out of the way so that they can do the work they need for themselves.

  • I’m a teenager-whisperer (when working with their child).

When parents thrive, kids thrive—and we are all children.

We are a generation that is moving the needle of parenting from a place of fear to a place of love. Kids who in turn become parents who want to work through their pain instead of it traveling through generations in families. This healing heals our children’s children.
